In December 2023 we named the first six Hargreaves Icon Award winners. These colleagues were recognised because of their outstanding performance in conjunction with one of our six company values. The Exyte Hargreaves values are Safety, Collaboration, Integrity, Future Focus, Dedication and Excellence.
In the fourth part of our series of interviews we spoke to our Future Focus Hargreaves Icon about their time in the business. Meet our Future Focus Icon, Mechanical Engineer, Mahnoor Shahid.
I’m Mahnoor. I am a and I’m a Mechanical Engineer. I’m currently working on High Speed 2 [HS2] project. Currently, Exyte Hargreaves has secured three projects on HS2 as part of the SCS framework, so I’ve joined our London team to help with delivery.
The most enjoyable thing about working for Hargreaves is the culture. I firmly believe that a positive culture brings positive results and we can see that in our projects: we are able to provide a great quality service to our clients because our people are a core priority of the business. I am very proud of the positive feedback we have received from the client on the projects I have been working on so far, our reputation is excellent because our people are excellent!
My background is in Finance. I worked as a Finance Administrator for 5 years whilst I was completing my degree in Mechanical Engineering. It’s a great mixture because it enables me to be view projects both from a technical perspective as well as a financial perspective. This appreciation was furtherly explored in my commercial rotation so now I like calling myself a ‘Commercially Aware Engineer’
Outside of work I really like to spend time travelling and helping others. I am currently involved in a few charity projects worldwide that as a result has become a real hobby of mine. I am really passionate about giving back to the community and improving someone’s life in any little way possible. But I also have very boring hobbies like playing chess.
How does it feel to win the Future Focus Icon Award?
'Terrible. It feels awful. It's the worst feeling in the world. No, okay, on a serious note: I genuinely feel honoured. I wasn't expecting it at all and to think that somebody has taken their time to vote for me and give me the opportunity to receive this award it's just incredibly sweet. I really appreciate the recognition given to my hard work. I am grateful.'
