Our #24In24 series is profiling the new members of team Hargreaves who’ve joined the company throughout 2024. Here is a record of our recent interview with IT Technician, Lawrence Lonsdale.
Why did you decide to join Exyte Hargreaves?
I was in between contracting jobs but I was looking for a permanent role. My brother currently works here as well so I had some general knowledge about the company. He told me we’re recruiting for roles and to have a look on the website to see what’s on there. I saw the IT Technician role advertised so I applied. I then had my interview with Mark Naylor and Rob Davies and now I’m gladly apart of the Digital team.
Since joining, what’s been your experience of Exyte Hargreaves?
The company experience is really good. It feels like a family. You seem to get to know everybody and staff know each other. They’re all there to help each other. And every day is a different day really. It’s great to communicate and work with different people all the time.
Can you talk a bit more about some of the things you’ve been working on?
I’ve been working on a vary of different projects. Working with our staff from the office, manufacturing operatives and site teams like HPC and Defence Projects. I’ve been working on general day-to-day tickets from anyone who has any IT issues. Also, working on delivering hardware for the new Unit 6 storage to kick things off there. Always looking to get stuck in with our Digital projects.
What would you say is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is when we receive a ticket that, even though in the last 13/14 years of my IT career, you’ve still not seen before, but you’ve been able to work it out and fix that problem and I can use that knowledge for tickets similar to that for the future. I do enjoy completed the more difficult tickets that’s been there for a couple weeks and when we’re able to fully resolve it, I feel a sense of accomplishment. There’s still a lot of things I’m still learning, my work colleagues are helping me with anything I need guidance on.
Why would you recommend Exyte Hargreaves to another potential employee?
I’ve found that Hargreaves was more streamline the way they recruited than other companies you may apply for within the industry. You apply for the job, your potential line manager get’s in touch with you and you have your Team’s call or interview (your choice). You’re not waiting weeks. Hargreaves is serious about the roles that they’re recruiting for. I found that it was really nice and easy for the recruitment process to join. And, I find that they’re a company that when they say they’re going to do something for you, whether up-skill you or help you out. They make sure you’re receiving the right help or training and will act upon what they’ve told you. If you do speak up and you’ve got something that you need to speak about or you’ve got any issues, you can speak to your manager. Hargreaves will support you.
