Our #24In24 series is profiling the new members of team Hargreaves who’ve joined the company throughout 2024. Here is a record of our recent interview with Quantity Surveyor Trainee, Ryan Cullen.
Why did you decide to join Exyte Hargreaves?
I was looking for a new opportunity in the construction industry. I was looking for a Trainee QS role and I’d heard really good things about Exyte Hargreaves. Through the interview process, everyone was really friendly. They talked a lot about personal growth and I really liked the attitude that they gave off. Overall, I thought it would be a great opportunity.
Since joining, what’s been your experience of Exyte Hargreaves?
Everyone has been really friendly and it’s been great getting to know everyone. I definitely felt hugely supported, especially during the first couple of months. People were asking how I was and offering lots of time and support to build me up and get me used to everything. I thought that was absolutely fantastic. And I’ve been able to see one of the largest construction projects in the country (HPC) and see how it works.
Can you talk a bit more about some of the things you’ve been working on?
I’ve been down at Hinkley Point C, which is the nuclear power station. I’ve been looking after the commercial aspects of the company down there. So I’ve pretty much been involved with everything, from accounts to procurement and getting involved with the site guys and seeing the installation of our duct.
What would you say is the best part of your job?
Whilst you’ve got your duties, no two days are the same. You always come into work and there’s a new challenge or something to learn from. So you’re never bored and you’re never not learning which is really good.
Why would you recommend Exyte Hargreaves to another potential employee?
I think it’s a great opportunity for anyone who’s looking to come into the industry and develop their skills. Everything that you put towards Exyte Hargreaves they’ll give you just as much which is a great environment to be in. Anyone that wants to feel supported and be in a good team I’d definitely recommend it.
