We’ve always thought that Exyte Hargreaves is an incredible business. Last month, we had that confirmed by our industry by winning two prizes at the 30th anniversary of the H&V News Awards. Honouring the very best of the Heating and Ventilation industry, Hargreaves was in esteemed company. Judges recognised our project team at Hinkley Point C as Project of the Year. Plus, our first-ever Quality Apprentice, Leon Barker-Williams, won Apprentice of the Year. Beth Richards (Bids & Proposals Apprentice) achieved Highly Commended in the same category.
Hinkley Point C: Building Services Project of the Year (over £10m)
The judges recognised the importance of our MEP contracting work to one of Europe’s largest construction projects. They also praised Exyte Hargreaves’ commitment to training, developing and supporting young talent. Our Hinkley Point C project was by far the largest one represented in this category and its stature went a long way towards securing this award win.
“Winning was like a ‘Proud Dad’ moment. This is a true reflection of the team’s hard work on Hinkley Point C.”
Ryan O’Neil, Operations Manager (Key Accounts)
Leon Barker-Williams: Apprentice of the Year
After narrowly missing out on top spot earlier in 2024 at the Made in the North West Awards, Leon picked up the trophy second time around. Leon’s journey impressed judges as Exyte Hargreaves’ first quality assurance apprentice. He communicated in his interview about the importance of quality assurance and how this contributed to motivating his career development.
“I am incredibly honoured and proud to be awarded the H&V News Apprentice of the Year. This achievement has given me the opportunity to reflect on all I have learned and accomplished during my apprenticeship, affirming that my efforts are making a meaningful impact. Winning this award not only provides invaluable recognition but also reinforces my confidence and passion for driving quality within my workplace.”
Leon Barker-Williams, Quality Assurance Technician
Beth Richards: Apprentice of the Year (Highly Commended)
Beth was also on the shortlist and narrowly pipped to the post by Leon. Judges said she was a very strong candidate who had made a confident start to her career. She had built a strong relationship with her mentor and was on track for further success in the future. As a previous champion of our HARTS (Hargreaves Team Stars) award, winning comes naturally to Beth and she will no doubt receive further accolades as her career progresses.
“It is a privilege being recognised by such a prestigious and respected body within the HVAC industry. It was a great experience to be surrounded by like-minded people who all share the same interest. The experience was even more special, as a celebration of the H&V News Awards 30th anniversary. It emphasises the importance of the HVAC sector and the value that each individual nominated brings.”
Beth Richards, Bids & Proposals Apprentice
