Skills4Stem

How's your relationship with your training provider?

I’m studying my Digital Engineering apprenticeship at Skills4Stem. My current tutor is teaching me Revit, Digital Engineering, Super Structure, Sub Structure (concrete foundation for housing) and residential housing. We are also learning Health and Safety in Construction Assignment Submission as our current assignment, we are finding out many different regulations about health and safety and then we can implement this research into our place of work so that we can be safer around the workplace.

How has it balanced with your day job?

I have an online session once a week with my tutor and group. This shows that I can learn online and not just in-person, I do prefer it this way as I can learn quicker and easier. It’s only a small group making it easier for me and everyone to interact and learn. 6 hours a week I’m at college and the rest of the time I’m spent on the job.

Is it a different environment learning and at work? Does that help your towards your overall environment?

Having a separated workplace environment helps towards my overall development as at college I can focus on learning and at Exyte Hargreaves I can focus on the tasks that need to be completed.

Dalux

How have you improved your on-the-job skills?

Whilst on my course I have improved my communication and relation building around with staff. I am supporting our site teams with the integration of Dalux, In site (Manufacturing)  I’m digitizing their processes through Revit and Dalux. I also conduct my own independent research in support of my Off The Job hours. I was also on a mental health course from my college which I can input into the workplace.

Learning how to model within Revit and AutoCAD has enable to add this knowledge into my workplace. This was Unit 10: Construction Management.

Also I’ve completed a Unit 13: Design Management within construction. This helps me understand the difference in structures used within residential building.

As an apprentice you can gain much more experience as a younger person than other ways of learning. Instead of just being in a learning environment, you get to feel the work life as well.
