Apprentice Diaries – Oliver Hurley
Written by Oliver Muscat on February 12th 2024
Hi! My name is Oliver and I have joined Exyte Hargreaves as a Digital Support Technician. From day 1 everyone has been extremely helpful, especially the IT team and they are more than to be by your side. Overall in this company I can get along with anyone as everyone is kind and people wont just leave you if your stuck on something. I have a background in computers since I was 6, as both of my parents come from this department in other industries. So, I have been following their footsteps however choosing my our own route and paving my own path into the Digital world.
Currently I am completing tickets on the IT help desk. This could involve password resets, installing software for staff, setting up new equipment and processing new starters and leavers. I am learning how to fix wall sockets in the IT room and a guide to access our succcessfactors for employees. In the upcoming months I will be assisting in other IT projects and a Q Drive clean. We are enrolling everyone onto Azure (server to manage all devices with ease). I am looking forward to learn I to set up scripting automatically.
The apprenticeship has been going very well so far. Outside of work in college I’ve been building virtual servers and learning about the behind the scenes. In work I am experiencing everything first hand. Never learnt so quick in my life but still plenty to learn. Will be starting to acquire certificates from places like Azure, COMP and ITILS soon to boost my knowledge in the field. Coming back from Christmas learnt just how busy it is coming into new year but always a good fun challenge.
"Outside of my job I enjoy adrenaline sports. Some of what I do is bunjee jumping, skydiving, skiing, snowboarding and I ride motorbike. My childhood growing up was spent on farms and riding quads and in tractors as most of my family live in Northern Island. When I get the time I spend it with my 2 dogs, Oreo who is a Alaskan Huskey and Dorris."
